Aquaculture in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
Since the beginning of this millennium, the state government has been intensively supporting and promoting aquaculture in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. These efforts have enabled the development of a promising infrastructure in the field of aquaculture in recent years. Producers, processing companies and research institutions in the state are now working together successfully. The course that has been adopted is to be further developed. The state government has set itself ambitious goals in this respect:
- Increase in production
At least 1% of the consumption of fish and other aquatic organisms in Germany is to be cultivated in aquaculture facilities - Further development of the cooperation between companies and research institutions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
- Further development of animal welfare in aquaculture
- Safe and high product quality
- Consideration of environmental and above all climatic aspects

Promotion of Investments
Who is supported?
Companies of any legal form which have their registered office and business operations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, no more than 250 employees and more than EUR 50 million annual turnover or a balance sheet total of EUR 43 million.
What is supported?
Support is provided for the following, for example:
- New investments or modernisation of an aquaculture facility
- Investments to reduce water consumption or increase water quality
- Investments to improve the quality of aquaculture products

Promotion of Innovations
Who is supported?
Companies of any legal form that have their registered office and business operations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can be supported. The projects are implemented by or in cooperation with recognised scientific or technical institutions.
What is supported?
Support is provided for the following, for example:
- the development of technical, scientific or organisational expertise in aquaculture companies
- the development or market launch of new breeding varieties with good market prospects

Promotion of Human Capital and Social Dialogue
Who is supported?
Companies of any legal form which have their registered office and business operations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, no more than 250 employees and more than EUR 50 million annual turnover or a balance sheet total of EUR 43 million.
What is supported?
Support is provided for the following, for example:
- the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge and innovative processes
- the improvement of working conditions and promotion of safety in the workplace
- the acquisition of new professional skills in aquaculture
